The Grand Army of the Republic

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was an organization of Union veterans and a political and social force in the U.S. for many decades after the Civil War. With the death of its last member in 1956 (at age 109) the GAR ceased to exist.  For more information, visit the Related Links section.

The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War

The Badge of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. The SUVCW was established in 1881 and is the legal heir of the GAR by an act of Congress.  Male descendants of Union veterans, and other associates, are eligible as members. Local SUVCW camps are found nationwide.

The Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War

The Badge of the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. The DUVCW encourages female descendants of Union veterans to consider joining.  It is a genealogical, historic and patriotic organization.

Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States

The Badge of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United StatesAll Union Civil War Officers, their male descendants, and interested associates, affirming their loyalty to the US Constitution, are eligible as members.
